LAWPRO is supporting public health recommendations to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We have implemented a work at home plan for all employees commencing Monday, March 16 through Sunday May 3, at which time we will re-assess the situation.

See our most current update here. (March 26, 2020)

During this time we remain available to assist you. Please use phone or email when possible to communicate with us.

Due to access control implemented by property management all documents, including originating documents such as a Statement of Claim where LAWPRO is a party, can only be delivered by email, courier, or Canada Post. An authorized LAWPRO representative will review the document and contact the appropriate parties regarding acceptance of service.

Note: If you are an Ontario Lawyer, visit this page to provide notice of a claim.

FAQs:

Q: What if I’m unable to pay outstanding levies or premiums during this period?

A: While lawyers are still expected to carry out their usual LAWPRO filings and payments, we recognize this may be difficult for many. Accordingly, LAWPRO will not be sending notices or following up on the collection of any delinquent accounts or missed filings (e.g., quarterly real estate and litigation transaction filings, unpaid premiums, or deductibles) at this time. If you want to stop automatic monthly or quarterly billing (credit card or EFT) until June 1, 2020, please notify us at [email protected]. Allow at least 10 business days for this to take effect. After the deferral period has ended, payments will recommence as scheduled, with premiums adjusted on a pro rata basis. We will notify you if a deductible is triggered, but please contact us at [email protected] if you need to defer that payment up until June 1, 2020. As usual, we will continue to let you know if the credit card we have on file expires.

Q: Can I apply for exemption from premiums if I choose to not practise during this period?

A: If you will not be practising at all on a temporary basis, for personal, medical or other reasons, for a minimum of thirty days, we strongly recommend that you look at applying for exemption from payment of premiums to stop these amounts accumulating.

Q: What is the best way to submit transaction levy filings?

A: If possible, please file your levies on-line, at lawpro.ca. There will not be a penalty for late filings during this time, nor negative implications on your ability to practice.

Q: I wish to pay for my premiums by cheque or in-person.

A: We encourage you to please make payments by credit card or EFT using our website whenever possible. If you make a payment by cheque and there is a delay in processing it, there will be no late penalties involved, nor negative implications on your ability to practice.

Q: I need the Real Estate Practice Coverage Option.

A: There may be greater delays than 10 business days for the processing of these requests. If coverage cannot be put in effect, we request you obtain assistance from another Real Estate lawyer until you are able to access Teraview. Thank you for your patience.

Q: I’m waiting for my refund. Can I get it?

A: Usual time for processing refunds is 4-6 weeks however there may be delays during this unusual time and we thank you for your patience.
